Pool Weasel — Portable Pool Vacuum Systems

Pool Weasel Vacuum Users Guide

Everything you need to set up, operate, and maintain your Pool Weasel system — from first prime to troubleshooting.

THE POWER CORD USED TO OPERATE THE POOL WEASEL MUST ALWAYS BE PLUGGED INTO A G.F.I. RECEPTACLE.

Getting Started

  1. 1Position the Pool Weasel unit poolside, near a G.F.I.-protected outlet, with clear access to the water's edge.
  2. 2Insert the return hose into the pool, securing the outlet end so return water flows back into the pool.
  3. 3Attach the vacuum head to the telescopic pole.
  4. 4Attach the vacuum hose to the strainer basket inlet on the unit.
  5. 5Submerge the vacuum head fully in the pool to bleed air from the hose.
  6. 6Fill the strainer basket with water to prime the pump before starting.
  7. 7Plug the power cord into a G.F.I.-protected receptacle.
  8. 8Flip the switch to begin priming — allow about 3 minutes for the unit to fully prime before vacuuming.

Vacuuming Tips

Vacuuming Pool Walls

Tilt the vacuum head slightly to keep full contact with the wall surface as you work upward, and slow your pace near the waterline to avoid breaking suction.

Freeing Snagged Debris

If the head snags on a drain, ladder, or fitting, gently pull straight back rather than yanking sideways — this frees debris without breaking prime and losing suction.

Relocating the Unit

  1. 1Unplug the power cord from the G.F.I. receptacle.
  2. 2Turn off the unit switch.
  3. 3Remove the return hose from the pool.
  4. 4Keep the vacuum head submerged, or lift it just enough to avoid losing prime in the hose.
  5. 5Move the unit to the new location, keeping the hose as level as possible.
  6. 6Re-submerge the vacuum head at the new location.
  7. 7Replace the return hose in the pool.
  8. 8Plug back into the G.F.I. receptacle and flip the switch — no re-priming needed, since the hose retained its prime.

Cleaning the Filters

Basket Filter

Empty and rinse the basket filter as needed during operation — it takes seconds and keeps suction consistent. For routes with heavy leaf debris, an optional inline leaf trap accessory can extend the time between empties.

Cartridge Filter

The pressure gauge reads 0-45 PSI. Clean the cartridge once it reads 10-15 PSI above its normal starting pressure.

To clean: unscrew the wing nut, remove the cartridge, hose down the pleats from top to bottom, check the housing for debris, and reseat the O-ring before reassembling.

Troubleshooting

Pool Weasel Will Not Prime or Loses Prime

  • Check the filter cartridge or basket for debris and clogging.
  • Check the vacuum head inlet for a clog.
  • Check that the strainer basket lid is fully seated — a loose lid breaks the seal.
  • Check the hose swivel cuff for cracks or a loose connection.
  • Check for a clogged impeller.
Thermal Overload or Tripped Breaker

If the unit repeatedly trips its thermal overload or a circuit breaker, stop use and consult a licensed electrician — this can indicate a wiring issue, an overloaded circuit, or a motor fault.
